A powerful tale of family and community, This House Is Not for Sale brings to life an African neighborhood and one remarkable house, seen through the eyes of a young member of the household. The house lies in a town seemingly lost in time, full of colorful, larger-than-life characters; at the narratives heart are Grandpa, the family patriarch whose occasional cruelty is balanced by his willingness to open his doors to those in need, and the house itself, which becomes a character in its own right and takes on the scale of legend -- Provided by publisher.

If you have ancestors who grew up in the rural South and were fortunate enough to hear their stories as a child, the tenor of this book might remind you alot of those stories. It sure did for me. Fantastic read, and a little bit off the 'modern' grid while still giving off the vibe of being written in the year 2015 (which it was)

This book explores one African neighborhood via the owner and inhabitants of one house. The novel begins with the house's origin story and ends with its demise. In between the two events, the reader meets various characters and learns a lot about African beliefs and attitudes. An interesting read.
