A Common Sense that is unwelcome....can be deflected by many kinds of...senselessness.

This isn't just an examination of high-relief landscapes responding to Gravity.
It's an excellent PBS production that addresses an under-rated danger, with an honesty that finally exposes some of the senseless reasons for the topic's low profile, but too high a mortality.
This program's featured event was the most deadly Landslide in U.S. history. Being involved with its aftermath, I had to see how it was portrayed, as soon as this program was released. Because, you see........it was personal.
-"Mass wasting" has always been a fascination, long before I began trekking to places where I witnessed many of it's terrible forms.
-Since youth, I've made mountaineering a passionate pastime.
-That experience was put to good use when I was accepted into our local Mountain Rescue Council. Many missions to retrieve injured, or worse, victims were initiated by collapse events.
-By romantic chance, I also had a sentimental fondness for a special little place in the valley enveloping the town of Oso, Washington. A mutual-familiarization accrued with a few local folks, that inspired my continued visitations, for over 30 years later.
When all of these facets fell together in late March, 2014......
the word "devastation"....applied both terrestrially.....and within my Heart.....
was redefined by an order of magnitude...that previously...I couldn't possibly have imagined.
Nova's portrayal of this horror was extremely tactful, respectful....and.....revealing.
There's much more than this singular Landslide example however, that's covered in the scope of the report.
Cumulatively, a...theme..begins to materialize about the repression of sagacity.
To those who take their bluff-top, slope, or base-of-slope topography for granted.......
and especially, to those land developers and property owners who ignore, or irresponsibly contribute to their lands' instability......
this documentary will unease you.
When you're willing, or when you're finally forced to accept an omnipresent Physical Law,
then every senselessness you've been sold, or buy-into, will be ultimately invalidated by what they were traded for.
Common Sense.
