While this was the 5th album by indie folkies Hurry for the Riff Raff, led by Alynda Lee Sagara, it was the first many people heard. While the sound is familiar, Sagara, as a woman, a Puerto Rican, and a lesbian, has a unique lyrical perspective. The anti-death ballad "The Body Electric is a stand out track. Their newest is called "The Navigator."

Alynda Segarra was on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah last night. She's an intersectional feminist Puerto Rican musician worth hearing & knowing!

Saw them live in Portland OR last year. Wonderful mix of influences from NYC to New Orleans.

Deserves to be heard if for no other reason than for finally giving (in "The Body Electric") a voice to Delia, a girl murdered (sometimes with a shotgun, occasionally with a rock) one time to many all over the American Murder Ballad's gloomy landscape, from Knoxville to Willow Garden.

This contemporary folk album features great songs such as "Good Time Blues (an outlaw's lament), "The New SF Bay Blues", and "No One Else".
