The Magic Christian , first published in 1959, is a satiric novel chronicling the madcap misdeeds and practical jokes of billionaire Guy Grand. Grand, whose mission in life is to create a joyful havoc using his unlimited wealth and creative imagination, believes that "there is nothing so degrading or so distasteful that someone won't do it for money." The Magic Christian was the basis for the 1969 film of the same name starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.

Not terribly impressive as a narrative or "novel", there's really no character arc or plot to speak of, just a series of descriptions of elaborate pranks. Don't expect too many christians, magic or otherwise! Perhaps a book greater in reputation than in fact, although it was interesting to see the early shades of "Doctor Strangelove" and "Easy Rider" in the writing.
