This book and God Bless the Gargoyles by Dav Pilkey captures the meaning of pain and empathy. For anyone who has felt that they are insignificant in the mythical scheme of things. Beautiful poetic justice :)

Interesting book to read and think about.

The time of myth is over, and Ultimon is the last dragon on earth in a modern world. One night he emerges and hears a voice that beckons to him, so he flies ever upward to the constellation Draco, where he is finally reunited with his kind. The end result may be happy for Draco, but their is tinge of sadness that permeates the book, for magic has left the world. Like so many other similar tales, it is sad to think of what we have deprived ourselves of; Science has given us much, but it has taken away something as well. As Ultimon's journey progresses, the colours become more cheerful, until he is finally bathed in light.
