This book is more of a game than a story, but what better way to introduce shapes to young listeners? Two characters introduce us to nine shapes – your classic circles and squares, sure, but also crescents, trapezoids, and semicircles. At first, the characters grab shapes in simple pairs or trios. But when you turn the page, an imaginative illustration is revealed, made up of those same core shapes. So a crescent stacked on top of a trapezoid becomes an angry bull, or a diving fish, or whatever else your audience can dream up. You can continue the game on the last spread, full of pairs of shapes – but if you cut out your own set of shapes, the possibilities would truly be endless!

A great book for an extension activity! Provide various cut out shapes and see what you can make with them.
