Not his best. I got a bit tired of the "how beautiful the woman was" descriptions.

I find the characters readable. I'll see what the next brings.

Strange storyline that tries to meld together several themes and sort of loses its way toward the end. Doc Ford used to be straight forward adventure/historical fiction with believable ties to our hero but this tale drifts out into the ether with only the villain as a believable person.

My first, but not my last, Doc Ford novel from White. I was captivated by the "Film Noir" feeling of the book, with the mysterious Garbo-type woman and the story line of a ship sunk in the waters off Captiva Island, Sanibel and Ft. Myers during a World War II-era hurricane and then uncovered by a recent hurricane. Interesting historical notes about a German presence in the coastal area. The next time I'm in the western Florida area, I will look at those waters through different eyes.

After reading the latest in the Doc Ford series, I continue to be a fan, although White's writing is getting a little more dogmatic and terse. He gets on a bit of a tear about the government's lack of response to natural disasters, but it seems a little too removed from the storyline.

There is also a gaping hole left in the story regarding a key female character that bothers me - perhaps she'll show up in later books.

Otherwise, another great Doc Ford book - I like the characters and look forward to what happens in their lives.
