This book was not only magical in its content, but in its writing. I cannot say I've encountered such a unique writing style that spoke to me so deeply in a while. I was enthralled with parts I and II, but did feel that there were some sections of parts III and IV where I was like, "Okay, okay, next please." That didn't sway me from rating it 5 stars. I thought it was a unique and fantastic tale and can't wait to dive into the next book. Also, Steve West is the BEST narrator. Highly recommend the book and audiobook.

I love fantasy stories that are lush and strange. This novel is wonderfully, lyrically, eerily lush, and "strange" is right there in the title. And the protagonist it's named for is a librarian, so extra goodness for me. Creepy gods, eccentric scholars, fairy tales, alchemy, ghosts, airships, dreams...there's really nothing about this I didn't adore.

One star taken away because it did drag a bit during the 60% mark because while the romance was beautifully innocent and starry-eyed, I felt that at that point of the book we had already looked in-depth at the personalities of the characters and, imo, their thoughts and emotions didn't need to be explained as much as they were

I enjoyed this book right up until the ending...

Though it does resolve the main storyline, it literally ends with "to be continued…" I hate that!

Otherwise, it was very well written with inventive world-building and a very likable protagonist. I will definitely read the next in this series.
