"A special-ops veteran of the war in Afghanistan returns to a broken marriage. When we meet him, he may or may not have killed his estranged wife. He is on the run with his two children-an adolescent boy who is big enough to fight back and an 8-year-old girl who wants to believe her father is a good man. The FBI agent in pursuit has family troubles of his own, including a suicidal daughter, but he can't get back home because of his unnatural obsession with this fugitive and the two children he is dragging with him cross-country. This is a thriller"-- Provided by publisher.

A remarkably well written book. It was such a good cross of action/murder thriller with introspective thoughts by both the haunted dad and his lead FBI tracker. I had to care about all of the characters in this tale regardless of what they did. Author Zobal has done such a sensitive job of providing each person's motivations and reactions throughout in an engrossing way. The dad who was a former Army Ranger was such a mix of turmoil and commitment. At some point in the story for all of the characters, I felt like I wanted to hug them and say, everything will be ok. And of course you have to read the story to see if that's accurate. I'll be putting Silas Zobal on my library search list so I can read his upcoming works. I love that Zobal cared about everyone, so rare in a mystery. That attitude of caring about people is such an important value to promote in many more of our books, especially in these days of election conflict.
