This book celebrates imagination and the love of stories. The art style is simple yet whimsical and it uses colour purposefully.
Note: Despite the fact that it's not a text-heavy book, it would be better appreciated by older children (7 & up ) because younger children won't understand the subtleties in the word art that adds layers of meaning to this book.
Magical.
Elegantly captures the essence of all that's possible through books with gorgeous illustrations.
Our family loves Oliver Jeffers but this perhaps it's not one of his best books.
Very abstract thinking will make it hard for intended audience, the children, to grasp. Also I had to point out what the letters in books were trying to illustrate to my nephew. He understood that, but since he can't read it just looks like gibberish to him. Books that talk about reading more books don't really appeal to me.
This is a beautiful book about the power of stories. The words are warm and soothing and the art is a brilliant combination of layered written words and illustrations. This is one that parents and kids will both love and will be an frequently requested bedtime read.
Simply beautiful. Although I believe the story would be better appreciated by an elementary-aged child (or older). As an adult, I appreciate the artistry and beauty of the book.
I really, really wanted to like this...but I just didn't. It was creative, but it didn't do much for me.
