Add a CommentQuick review from a grown-up: this book was great. It was fun to read, colorful, and makes some nice points (about diversity, communication, et cetera) in a pretty subtle way. Please note a few things, regarding the page where the main character runs into her friends in the park. First, it is not clear that both are "Black friends" (in contrast to what a prior commenter stated). Second, one of the friends is greeting the main character's dog -- not the main character herself -- when saying "You're one smart snoop dawg". Third, the dog (Manny the dog) was really smart, and friendly too! To all readers: please enjoy this sweet book.
I like everything about this book EXCEPT the page where she runs into her friends in the park...although they are cartoons it looks like they are supposed to portray Black friends and they greet her with "wazzup?" "hey snoop dawg" and "yo". I mean....cringe.
My daughter is obsessed with this book. She asks me to read it over and over again whenever she's home. It's a delightful book that introduces young children to different languages and cultures and has a two great characters at the center. I can't recommend this book enough!
A great book with minimal text that introduces young children to different cultures and how to say hello in 6 or 7 different languages. Very simple.
My four year old has asked for this story a few times. It is interesting seeing all the different languages the girl encounters in her journey through the neighborhood.
