Add a CommentStory based on Joan Proctor who strayed from what was expected of her and followed her passion: reptiles! All through her life she defied the odds to do what she really loved. A great story about a strong woman.
By chance, this book came in for me in March, National Women's History month. Joan Procter's story is definitely one worth reading about being among women in history to break into a job that traditionally was reserved for men.
With changing times and circumstances, she took advantage of an opening provided by her mentor, Dr. Boulenger, first as his assistant, and later taking over for him when he retired. During the course of her career, she helped advanced what was known about reptiles, their native habitats, and care in captivity.
Highly recommend this! It's beautifully illustrated and written.
My 5.5 yo son LOVES this book! Shark Lady is another good one.
Jane Goodall isn't the only inspiring scientist out there! :)
