Massacre at Hells Canyon explores one of the worst mass murders of Chinese by whites in the United States. Chinese immigrants were instrumental in building the West but they faced unprecedented legalized discrimination and violence. In 1887, up to 34 Chinese gold miners were massacred along the Oregon side of the Snake River in rural Wallowa County. For more than 100 years, evidence of the murders was hidden away, and the story long forgotten. Today, the massacre at Hells Canyon is finally acknowledged.
