World history has been made by countless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals -- and you've never heard of many of them. Queer author and activist Sarah Prager delves deep into the lives of 23 people who fought, created, and loved on their own terms. From high-profile figures like Abraham Lincoln and Eleanor Roosevelt to the trailblazing gender-ambiguous Queen of Sweden and a bisexual blues singer who didn't make it into your history books, these true stories uncover a rich queer heritage that encompasses every culture, in every era.

From Library Staff

While it's impossible to know how people from the past identified, this collection of short biographies share the lives of people who might today call themselves queer, and how they changed the world.

While it's impossible to know how people from the past identified, this collection of short biographies share the lives of people who might today call themselves queer, and how they changed the world.

Short, irreverent, researched biographies of inventive trailblazers, who if they were alive today, might identify as queer. Includes Eleanor Roosevelt, Alan Turing, Abraham Lincoln, Jeanne D'Arc, Frida Kahlo, Gertrude "Ma" Rainey and more.

An engaging historical anthology of LGBTQ persons. Some of the people discussed in this book might be familiar to readers, but many more may not be. A must read for anyone, teen or adult, who wants to learn more about the queer community. The author also includes references in the back, for readers who wish to further expand their knowledge.

I highly recommend this engaging and empowering book.
