While Sophie's anger management technique may not be an option for a lot of children, the description of Sophie's anger both through words and the use of colour is very effective. It could help children realize other people feel angry like them too.

I had to read this book...I mean who doesn't get angry-really, really, angry?!
Well let me tell you Sophie gets so angry that she becomes destructive and has to run to the woods to expend all those extreme motions. Once that's done she returns home and all is well...her parents barely give her a glance once she returns from her wooded excursion.
I'm not sure letting your kid run off to the woods alone is the best idea but it works for this family. One of my favorite motto's is : good for you but not for me.
I did like that at the very end of the book there is a conversation starter about handling anger. I enjoy engaging in meaningful conversations provided by books.

The book is about a girl that gets angry easily. She gets angry when her sister took her gorilla and fell over her truck. When she gets really angry and wants to smash the world to smithereens. Sophie is like a volcano ready to explode. When she gets super angry she runs away. Then she has to cry, and then she climbs up the old beach tree. Seeing the wide world makes her feel better, and when she feels better she comes back home. Everybody likes to see her. Then Sophie isn't angry anymore.

Going outside and being alone makes Sophie feel better. It helps her deal with her anger.
