Meet Kiranmala: Interdimensional demon slayer (Only she doesn't know it yet.) On the morning of her twelfth birthday, Kiranmala is just a regular sixth grader living in Parsippany, New Jersey ... until her parents mysteriously vanish and a drooling rakkhosh demon slams through her kitchen, determined to eat her alive. Turns out there might be some truth to her parents' fantastical stories - like how Kiranmala is a real Indian princess and how she comes from a secret place not of this world. To complicate matters, two crush-worthy princes ring her doorbell, insisting they've come to rescue her. Suddenly, Kran is swept into another dimension full of magic, winged horses, moving maps, and annoying, talking birds. There she must solve riddles and battle demons, all while avoiding the Serpent King of the underworld (who may or may not want to kill her) and the Rakkhoshi Queen (who definitely does) in order to find her parents and basically save New Jersey, her entire world, and everything beyond it. -- From dust jacket.

This book was very enjoyable. It is similarily written like Percy Jackson. There are some funny sarcastic moments that will make laugh out loud. The theme of this book is about self discovery. How even though she has an evil biological dad does not mean that she is also evil.
You should definitely read the rest of the book in this trilogy!

One of my favorite books from 2018. For anyone that loves the works of Rick Riordan, you will not want to skip this book!

An adventure-filled novel about a girl who discovers on her twelfth birthday that she is really and Indian princess, and must now save her parents from a monster. I loved Kiran's feisty spirit, as well as the references to Bengali folktales that are further elaborated on in the author's note.

On her 12th birthday, Kiranmala discovers that maybe she is an Indian princess after all. Her parents have disappeared and two princes show up to protect her and whisk her away to safety and help her find her parents.

This was a fun adventure novel with a strong female protagonist. It is written in a humorous, over-the-top style. I appreciated the author's note at the end discussing the mythology behind the characters and stories.

Lots of entertaining action and humor with a fresh, interesting mythology. It has a somewhat cartoonish and melodramatic tone that will appeal to some and put off others.

Fans of Percy Jackson will enjoy new adventures loaded with Indian culture and folktales. Spunky Kiranmala is surprised when her parents disappear on her 12th birthday, leading her on an adventure full of danger and self-discovery in order to rescue them. Full of humor, action and mythology, readers are taken on a rakkhosh-fighting, dimension-jumping, fast-paced quest.

A girl growing up in New Jersey has been told by her parents her whole lift that she’s a princess, and she never believes it – until, on her 12th birthday, her parents disappear and two princes come to take her to the Kingdom Beyond Seven Oceans and Thirteen Rivers to fulfil her destiny and rescue them. On their adventure they’ll meet the demon queen, a snarky talking bird, the Serpent King (who has a giant python from whom they must steal a gem), and cross a river made of rubies. Oh, and there are flying horses and baby stars, too. If you’re a fan of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson or Magnus Chase series, you’ll love meeting Kiranmala!
