Add a CommentA beautiful heart-warming graphic novel that is fast-paced with relaxing gorgeous illustrations.
Themes of loving and taking care of the planet and finding peace after the loss of a parent add to the endearing nature of this book.
A simple story with ocean environmentalism and community at its core. Warm and cute, as one would expect from Katie O'Neil.
This book has some really cute drawings but is also a great introduction to environmentalism for children. It discusses heavy topics like warming sea temperatures and the destruction of coral reefs in a really accessible way.
Such a beautiful story about being emotionally strong and the balance between humans and the environment.
Alright so if you read my reviews (bless your heart if you do), you know that I love anything Katie O’Neill does. Her books are always guaranteed to be adorable, magical, AND queer. Which is the perfect trifecta to lure me in.
O’Neill has already done books about princesses and dragons, but in this one she tackles unicorns & mermaids! Our young heroine Lana visits her aunt’s seaside town and comes across some mysterious seahorse-like creatures with one horn. When she learns her aunt’s secret, Lana must make a difficult decision.
Definite recommend for all ages! (Also they’re turning the book into a board game to be released in late 2019! Keep your eyes peeled.)
Katie O'Neill's art is as gorgeous as ever in this lovely story of recovering from loss and protecting the environment.
Loved it!
Cute book with very nice art. I've read her other works and really enjoyed those. Can't really say the same for this one though. While I did like it, it came off rather preachy about saving the environment. Like that's a good message, the usual "do your part" message but I felt like it glossed over the real reason there's such heavy pollution, it's never really just one person or village, it's the result of corporations. It just felt more like a lecture. Like there are places were traditions and modern amenities coexist, I felt like it could have tried to go in that route rather than a built trip.
A sweet ecological fable, filled with O'Neill's trademark adorable illustrations and diverse characters dealing with themes of grief, community, and responsibility.
A magical journey with mystical underwater unicorns, adventure and a collective call to action. A beautifully illustrated heartfelt story about learning to be a guardian to yourself, those you love and the earth.
