A mysterious box appears in the chicken squad’s backyard. Dirt, Sugar, Poppy and Sweetie want to solve the mystery involving the box. Sugar is certain that a dangerous animal is in the box and that the chickens are in imminent danger! After spying on the creature in the box the chickens conclude that there is a rabbit in the box. As the chickens are talking about the new rabbit, they realize that the door to the rabbit hutch is open and there is a terrible storm coming. The chickens must go “into the wild” to save the rabbit.

There’s a mysterious new cage in the barnyard.
The Chicken Squad, curious as always, is determined to know more about it. Who – or what – is the new arrival? Is it dangerous … and why doesn’t it ever come out of its cage?
Before long, the four chickens suspect that their new “farm mate” – who is definitely not a chicken - is up to no good!
Equipped with the latest surveillance gear (including some ridiculous disguises and a plentiful supply of marshmallows), the intrepid chickens venture out into the “wild” (the edge of the farmyard) and prepare a stake-out location in hopes of finding some answers.
Their contrasting personalities, hilarious antics and a sudden bad storm lead to chicken mayhem as they attempt to use “the scientific method” (hypothesis, observation and testing) in the most unscientific ways possible to solve the barnyard mystery!
This is the third book in the laugh-out-loud Chicken Squad series of easy-to-read chapter books by Doreen Cronin, who is also the author of Click, Clack, Moo, Cows That Type. The fourth title, Dark Shadows: Yes, Another Misadventure”, has just been published.
