Does your dog like goodbyes? I didn't think so. Neither does Moose. He'll do anything for a "hello", even if it means escaping the backyard.

You'll relate to this story if you have a super snuggly pup that follows you everywhere.

Do you have a young reader at home that loves the Reading to Rover programs? Well, this book offers an insight to therapy dogs. Moose loves his owner, but cannot handle leaving her. He wants to always be there, always helpful. The solution? He becomes a therapy dog, so he never has to leave her and can always help.

Remember that Mother Goose rhyme about a lamb whose only desire in life was to follow Mary to school so he could hear the children laugh and play? Well Moose the dog thinks he's that little lamb. Moose REALLY hates goodbyes and will do anything to get to to see his favorite little girl... including following her to school and the library and the cafeteria. Luckily his favorite girl devises a plan.

This is a warm touching book about a dog that is a companion dog for Zara who uses a wheelchair. She loves to read to her dog and Moose loves to sit by her and listen. Moose does not like the word Goodbye but loves the word Hello. This is a great example of how important companion dogs are and their roles in society and in the classroom. desertlib

I love this book!
The characters are all kinds of diverse - ethnicities and physical abilities!
There's a dog!
It focuses on reading!
And the author tells us a about therapy dogs!
With libraries and schools offering "Reading with Rover" programs, this book feels like a fun introduction for them.

Zara's dog, Moose, really wants to go to school with her, but sadly pets aren't allowed in the school library, cafeteria, or classroom. Zara and her parents decide to take Moose to therapy dog school, and Moose soon becomes the beloved classroom reading dog.

I love that this book includes an author's note about therapy dogs in the classroom and library to foster a "pawsitive" love of reading! The author's note also describes the difference between therapy dogs and service dogs.

Readers of "Hello Goodbye Dog" will also enjoy "Madeline Finn and the Library Dog" by Lisa Papp.

This book hits all the marks: naming emotions, diverse characters, reading to soothe and finding creative solutions. It's a great way to introduce the benefits of therapy dogs, a common presence observed today in a wide range of environments.
