In two of the most renowned and historic venues in Harlem, Alexander Smalls and JJ Johnson dreamed up the Afro-Asian-American flavor profile. Braiding together the foods of the African diaspora and Asian influences with a distinctly New York sensibility, they present here for the first time more than one hundred recipes that go beyond just one place, taking you, in words from The New Yorker, "somewhere between Harlem and heaven.

This cook book will surely be on everybody's best of lists this year. So many unique recipes at all levels of cooking mastery, from beginners to experts. And not only beautiful photos of the finished food but lovely combinations of word art and ingredients, and portraits of the peoples described in the book that tie the food to the African Diaspora. The text is witty, informative and infused with passion and love for the cultures showcased in this book. I can't recommend it enough.
