A dystopian, sci-fi twist on the classic fairy tale, Cinderella. Despite how cliche it sounds, this book was surprisingly one that I really enjoyed reading. Cinder is a cyborg and gifted mechanic in a country ravaged with the plague. The threat of war hangs in the air between Lunars who live on the moon ruled by Queen Levana, and humans and cyborgs who live on Earth. In this futuristic world, Cinder discovers secrets about herself and gets entangled with Prince Kai, the heir to the throne of New Beijing. Although some parts of this book were quite slow, I still liked the characters’ charismatic personalities and the interesting plot line. I recommend this book to anybody who enjoys sci-fi, romance, and suspense!

In this Cinderella type adaptation, a 16 year old cyborg girl finds herself in an interesting position as a deadly plague hits earth & the cure is carried by the Lunars. Time is running out as Prince Kai searches for the lost Princess Selene in an attempt to avoid marrying a rather evil and deceptive queen who has powers to change the way she looks. This is personally among one of my favorites and I love how it leaves you wanting more. With much going on, there are many hidden surprises and overall I'd say this book would be good for people 12+.

I haven't read it yet, but based on the description, here's what I think of it:
1. Weird, my specialty
2. Robot Cinderella, which I wonder if it's the creepy-original-don't-show-this-to-kids one, or the Disney-for-kids-as-much-as-they-may-want-it one
3. The amount of comments on this, considering some massively overrated books have less comments
4. Yeah, I can't think of much more, though I feel to need to make it so there is an even numbers on the numbers side on the left

So in conclusion, I don't know how this may help you at all, but your trip into my brain is officially over!

My friend recommended this book to me after I had dismissed it as sounding dumb. I'm so glad I actually tried reading it because it's about the most amazing dystopian (okay, only sort of) sci-fi book I've ever read! I loved the depth of all of Meyer's characters, especially Cinder and Dr. Erland. Cinder and Kai are the cutest couple since Arwen and Aragorn, jsyk! Even though some of the stuff was a bit cliche, just cuz it's supposed to be a butchered retelling of Cinderella, I didn't think it detracted. And even though I was able to predict almost every single plot twist, I still squealed whenever some secret was revealed! I highly recommend this book to anyone who like adventure, sci-fi, and romance with a bit of fantasy thrown in!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a refreshing combination of fairy tales and science fiction, incorporating the best of both genres. The story mirrors many aspects of Cinderella, creating both nostalgia and suspense in the reader for what will happen next. The story is set in a futuristic world, where humans and androids coexist. Cinder, a 16 year old mechanic, is the protagonist in the story. She is different from most in her city; not quite human, not quite android. Cinder is a cyborg. She lives in New Beijing, where an incurable plague is overtaking the population. It all begins when she gets an unexpected visitor at her repair shop, and she is forced to see her world in a new light. All the while, the manipulative Lunar people watch from space, waging their war against the world in the ultimate goal of bringing it to its knees. To prevent this from happening, Cinder must uncover the secrets of her past to save her future.

Throughout the story, the writer introduces you to fun characters you will fall in love with and unique places you will want to visit. A very suspenseful and action-packed read, the Lunar Chronicles’ first installment is a novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author masterfully sets Cinder up to play a larger role in the Lunar war. I recommend this book for those who enjoy sci-fi, action, and adventure. For my overall reading experience, I rate this story 5/5 stars.

Cinder, by Marissa Meyer
Cinder tells a very interesting and fun twist on a Cinderella story! Cinder is a cyborg never truly accepted by her stepmother, and stepsister Pearl, but younger stepsister Peony was always a sunshine in Cinder’s day, and loved Cinder like a true sister. Cinder is the best mechanic in all of New Beijing, which is why Prince Kai, prince of the Eastern CommonWealth, approaches her to fix his android, Nainsi, to recover information. Soon our antagonist Queen Levana of Luna comes to The Eastern Commonwealth with very ill intentions. She rules Luna through fear and her glamour, and intends to rule the Earth by first ruling The Eastern Commonwealth as well, if someone doesn’t stop her reign of terror. The Eastern CommonWealth is weak because of the plague that kills its victims, no one survives, but it happens that Cinder is immune. Through a series of events, Cinder learns about Queen Levana’s true intentions and plans to prevent her from taking the throne. Little does the world know its fate holds in a cyborg girl. I mostly loved Cinder’s character because she was strong and independent, always valuing doing the right thing. She never backed away, even when she was afraid. I also really loved the interactions between characters, and added humor and fun to the story. I recommend this book to those who love adventure, dystopian fiction, and a little romance.

Ok this is legit one of the best series I've ever read and I've read KOTLC (so that's saying something) If you like the classic fairy tales then this book is the one for you, with crazy new twists and turns in every page. I personally loved Cinder but after reading the whole series I can't choose which book is the best!

Really just not vibing with the whole advanced technology/cyborg thing.

I’d put off reading this title for so long because of it, and honestly it was only okay. I’m probably bias because the book just wasn’t my thing, but I also found it overly predictable and pretty average.

Marissa Meyer’s debut novel, Cinder, is a fresh science-fiction-dystopian retelling of the much beloved classic, Cinderella. The titular character, Linh Cinder, is a cyborg mechanic in the country of New Beijing in the year 126 T.E. Many of the original tale’s elements carry over into the retelling, such as the quote/unquote “evil” stepmother and stepsisters. And (of course) Prince Charming, or Crown Prince Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth makes a few appearances as well. There is a play on the iconic glass slipper, and everything fits perfectly into the old storyline while staying true to the new concepts and ideas Meyer has crafted (ahem, a global pandemic that makes COVID-19 look tame).
I have immense respect for the way Meyer balanced the new and old elements of the story, and nothing ever felt overdone. While I as the reader could anticipate some of what would happen next due to the original fairytale, the story was still unique enough that I was genuinely unsure of how everything would end. I loved Cinder, and found her extremely realistic and relatable.
I would recommend this book, and all three of its sequels to any readers who enjoy a good fairytale retelling, but also have a love for science fiction and dystopian elements. 5 Stars-@storygirl of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
After hearing much praise from others, I decided to read Cinder, the first novel in Merissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles, just recently. Overall, I found the whole idea of the story, which takes a futuristic spin on the original Cinderella story to be very interesting, giving it a lot of potential, but, for me, I thought the book to be very slow, especially in the beginning. Additionally, in some parts, I even found that I had to force myself to read on. However, despite the first book, I found the Lunar Chronicles an enjoyable series to read overall since the other books were much more fast-paced than the first. For this reason, if you are willing to overlook the first novel, then I would give the Lunar Chronicles a try. 3/5 stars

Personally, I do not recommend this novel. I don’t recommend it for the reason that it does not hold the reader's attention. The storyline behind the book about Cinderella with a twist which I love because fairy-tales are a big part of me, but Cinder let me down. I struggled to read the first few pages, as I was confused and struggling not to look at my cell phone. The first few pages of a novel are key because it needs to capture the reader's attention and this story and engross you, this just did not. As I kept reading, I was still quite confused, and many different elements were getting thrown around as new plots kept getting introduced. I don’t know about the rest of the novels in Marissa Meyer’s series of fairy-tale identities, but Cinder was a flop to me and the end did not satisfy me. 1 Star
