Review by Richard Paul (Seattle Public Library) Michael Connelly: Nine Dragons, 2009 This is a very active read!! Harry Bosch Still frustrated with his detective partner and at the same time trying to work things out. His partner, Ignacio Ferras, has returned to duty too soon after being shot on duty: wanting to take care of paperwork supporting cases: instead of field work. Also Ferras is worn out do to home duties, having twin babies and a very tired wife. Bosch and their boss, Larry Gandle both feel that Ignacio came back too soon. The next assignment/investigation comes in and Farras argues not to take the Investigation. The case was based in South Bureau but Lt. Gandle said; we’ve got their back this week. Bosch and Ferras arrived at the Chinese Liquor store, where Bosch had met the owner years before during the Riots. The old Chinaman on the floor behind the checkout counters, dead. The crime scene just did not seem right to Bosch. The Chinaman had three gun wounds in the chest. Evidence later pointed to a bag man for one of the Chinese Triads, whom was arrested for murder. Bosch gets a threatening phone call. Then his Daughter is kidnapped in Hong Kong, Harry flies there, meeting his ex-wife Eleanor Wish and her bodyguard Sun Yee. And they start the search. Many people die in Hong Kong during this search/hunt. One is Eleanor Wish. Bosch and Sun Yee complete the rescue of Bosch’s daughter: Madeline. Then fly back to the U.S., Making Harry Bosch’s trip to Hong Kong and back just under 40hrs. Bosch has to have his half brother: Mickey Haller, whom is an attorney. Resolve the happenings in Hong Kong. No happy ending yet! More struggles, mistakes and Errors. Enjoy! Thank You Michael,I enjoyed the tie-ins. Reviewed on May 18 2010
