Naslund's "Ahab's Wife" was a good read so I was looking forward to this latest novel. There are 2 stories that alternate between time periods, each featuring a narcissistic female character. Some of the writing is so silly I find it hard to continue reading, but am determined to get to the end. There is a line about crunching leaves and autumn eating its cereal that left me slack jawed. I would quote it but I don't want to waste any extra time looking for it in a sea of awkward prose.
