I really enjoyed this movie 25 years ago when I first saw it. Just watched it again and it holds up quite well. It's neat watching the band improving their musical chops as their personalities clash and the band chemistry goes in the tank. The center of attention here is the lead singer Deco (Andrew Strong) who is a truly gifted soul singer with the prickly personality of Ty Cobb. When I first saw this movie, I thought Strong would find fame as a white soul singer, but it turns out he was the same obnoxious jerk in real life as the role he played in The Commitments. Too bad, the movie featured excellent music and quirky humor.
