This book is a timely, effective, and emotional look at one refugee family's experience as they flee war and look for a new home. The language is simple enough for children to easily grasp, although it pulls no punches about the grim realities refugees face. I love how the fairy tale-esque illustrations contribute to a sense of both fear and hope, and the open-ended conclusion is the perfect segue into important questions for kids and families to discuss, including who belongs and who deserves to be welcomed and safe.
