Critical Orientations to Indigenous Studies Booklist
2 users like thisThe Critical Orientations to Indigenous Studies Curriculum was designed by Leilani Sabzalian, Assistant Professor of Indigenous Studies in Education at the University of Oregon. The six orientations are: Place - you are always on Indigenous homelands Presence - Indigenous peoples are still here Perspectives - Indigenous perspectives challenge Eurocentrism and provide analyses to enrich curriculum more broadly Political Nationhood - “Indigenous Peoples are nations, not minorities” (Wilkins & Stark, 2010) Power - challenge power dynamics in curricula and create space to highlight examples of indigenous creativity and collective power Partnerships - cultivate and sustain partnerships with Indigenous people, organizations, and nations This booklist offers book suggestions for Place, Presence, Perspectives, Political Nationhood, and Power. Many of the titles are applicable for multiple categories. Are you a teacher that lives or works in Multnomah County? Need a custom booklist? https://multcolib.org/assignment-alert -Lael T.
