Decodable books: Advanced Vowel Patterns: Multcolib Families
Vowel teams are two or more vowels together that make a sound, such as in the words boot or rain. Diphthongs contain two vowels, and the mouth glides from one to other, like in the words loud or coin. R-controlled vowels have a vowel followed by r. Sometimes this pattern is called the “bossy r” because the “r” takes over and the vowel makes a different sound, such as in the words car or bird. Some of the books on this list are more decodable than others. All feature either vowel teams, diphthongs or r-controlled vowels. An adult may need to help with more difficult words.
