Hoʻonani Kamai doesn't feel like a wahine or kāne, but instead somewhere in-between. When a traditional kāne hula chant is performed at school, Hoʻonani longs to be part of it, and works to achieve her dream and the respect of her classmates and family. This picture book is based on the 2014 documentary A Place in the Middle.
