Relates the strange occurrences which happen to men in three life boats, after the Glen Carrig is shipwrecked in unknown seas during some time in the 1700s. One boat finds the Country of the Silence, with its deadly foliage and strange, evil, and silent creatures. The two remaining boats are driven by stormy seas into the Sargasso Sea, where they are attacked by slimy fungi, ghastly slugs, Weed men, huge octopi, and malignant giant crabs. Eventually, they find and board a disabled ship and later, after other battles with sea creatures, manage to return home.
